How to Recover a Corupt NTFS Hard Drive

New technology file system (NTFS) is the file system of choice for modern Microsoft operating systems such as XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Recovering a corrupt NTFS drive is necessary after a virus, hardware failure or user error has destroyed the integrity of the drive. Accomplish this by using the disk repair tools in your operating system.

Instructions
1. Click "Start." Type "cmd" in the "Search" box and press "Enter."
2. Type "chkdsk x: /r" and press "Enter," replacing "X" with the letter of the corrupt NTFS drive.
3. Press "Y" to confirm.
4. Restart the computer. The disk will be checked and repaired at system start-up.
